Benson Estate, North Haven
A stunning property on idyllic North Haven Island, the Benson Estate is everything an island retreat should be.
Vacationing on an island like North Haven is an experience that everyone should have, but is afforded to only a handful of people.
Island-living is slower it's a chance to truly take a break from a fast-paced life. On North Haven, time is not measured in hours. Rather, time is told by the tides, by the launching of a regatta in the thoroughfare and when the sun dips behind the tall pines.
Appointments consist of an invite to a casual waterside dinner party, a bike ride to town for coffee in the morning or a walk along the shore when the sun is setting. It's different here and different is just what you need.
The Benson Estate was the longtime home of famed American Artist Frank Benson. He spent many years here painting the very scenes you see from the property. The barn is still set up like his studio and a mural runs along all 4 walls in the dining room painted carefully by the man who loved this house so deeply. Now owned by a family who has summered on the island for years, the Allens are committed to keeping the charm of the house without sacrificing modern necessities.
The property consist of the main house a 1795 Federal Farmhouse, a guest house known as the Captain's Cottage, a post-and-beam barn, private tennis courts, a private pier and boat house, 10 acres of fields and woods and over 500 feet of bold waterfront.
Guests may rent the entire property or pick and choose which components of the farm meet their needs best.
The farmhouse has 6 bedrooms and 4 full bathrooms, sleeping 10 people. There are two bedrooms on the first floor one with 2 twins (can be made into a king) and one with 1 twin.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms with 2 twins each (can be made into kings) and one bedroom with a twin.
The guest house has two bedrooms and one full bath. The first bedroom has a double and the second has a twin.
The barn, which may be used for events, has a half bathroom as well.
