Berry Cottage & Bee House, Spruce Head
Main house sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms; 2 full bathrooms
Berry Cottage couldn't be more charming a gorgeous cottage with the much-sought-after look and feel of a classic Maine vacation house. Complete with a bunk house (known as the Bee House), wharf, beach and screen porch, Berry Cottage is what everyone imagines and hopes for when they vacation on the coast of Maine.
Berry Cottage is located on Spruce Head Island, just south of Owls Head and north of Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde. Spruce Head Island is a very accessible island that you can drive onto thanks to a causeway, a fixed bridge that links the mainland to the island. Spruce Head Island is a working island and gives you the best of both worlds the away-from-it-all feeling of a Maine island along with the ease of roaming around the mainland without waiting for a ferry.
Once a small fishing shack, Berry Cottage was lovingly renovated and expanded by the Berry Family. Without sacrificing the vintage charm, Berry Cottage was made into a year-round family compound with four bedrooms, 2 full baths and wonderful living spaces both in and out.
Berry Cottage is located on Little Dog Path and is situated nicely on a large, green lawn the views are of the private wharf and float, the small beach, Wheeler's Bay and Rackliff Island. Truly, it's hard to beat the feel and the views Berry Cottage offers.
A fully-equipped kitchen is at the front of the house whatever you need, you'll be able to find, including a dishwasher. A dining and sitting area off the kitchen gets sun all day from the bay window this is a good place to eat or put together a puzzle.
Off the kitchen find a laundry room and a full bath.
The living area is dominated by an amazing, well-crafted and beautiful fireplace and chimney it makes the whole cottage. This well-sized room offers comfortable seating, nice lighting in the reading nooks, a standard-sized television with satellite and Internet access.
The screened-in porch, with exposed-beam vaulted ceilings is a welcome addition to the cottage. Outstanding and unobstructed views of the waterfront and the front and side lawn and no uncomfortable furniture out here just wicker, padded chairs, ottomans and couches. This is the most popular room in the house, hands down.
The master bedroom is on the first floor, off the living room. This is a large, light room with vaulted ceilings and pickled bead-board walls. There is a king-sized bed and good bedside lights for reading. Upstairs, there are three more bedrooms and a bathroom. The two bedrooms at the front of the house both have skylights that give views of the water.
The first bedroom has a queen bed with a window overlooking the side yard. The second bedroom also has a queen bed and a view of the water from a side window. This bedroom opens directly into the bathroom, which has a shower.
The third bedroom is the twin room with two twin beds and windows overlooking the backyard. This bedroom also opens into the bathroom. The first bedroom accesses the bathroom through the second bedroom or the twin room. There is a door between the first and second bedroom for privacy.
The Bee House (bunk house) is located about 25 feet away from the main house. With sleeping for 2 on two cots, this is a favorite sleeping spot for kids!
Launch a kayak from the beach or dock a large boat at the wharf. Ride bikes or take a walk around the island or set up an Adirondack chair on the beach for a good read. Catch the first fish off the dock or take a dip in the Atlantic. Lobster boats come back past the house after a long day hauling wave, they'll wave back, and you might just be able to get some lobsters, right from the ocean. Berry Cottage is the kind of cottage that feels as comfortable for 2 as it does for 10. This is a place to make memories that last a lifetime along the rocky coast of Maine.
