Big Red House, Martinsville
Sleeps 8 in 3 bedrooms and 1 sleeping alcove, 2 full bathrooms with showers
This wonderful Camp, circa 1915, is affectionately called by locals, The Big Red House. It is located on what may be the most desirable 47 acres in mid-coast Maine. It is in the area called Martinsville, between the villages of Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor, and has the ocean on three sides. This land has a slightly higher elevation than the surrounding properties, making for spectacular uninterrupted views. This property has access to two sand beaches, one on either side of the house. These two beaches are very unique in this area of the Maine coast! One beach is cobble stone and sand and the other is sand. The 47 acres is "a head" in shape, surrounded by the ocean with walking paths all around its rocky shore, and through the middle of the black spruce forest with its beautiful moss forest floor. This is truly a great location. Behind the house is a garage that has a rental apartment and behind that is a very small rustic cottage. These two places are each rented only to long time friends of the owner's family, and share a drive way with this house.
This is a perfect place to swim, walk the paths, climb on the rocks, explore tide pools, bird watch, explore a mature coastal spruce forest, enjoy picnics on the rocks, enjoy the low flying American eagles, and bring your small boats. There is protected water in which to drop anchor and lots of room for your small boats to be beached.
The house is a truly wonderful Maine summer camp, with three bedrooms, one sleeping alcove with a curtain for privacy and its own wonderful views of the water, and two bathrooms (shower only). This property is in general is very simple. The interior of the house, including the porch, is about 1800 square feet. The covered porch which looks onto the dirt road to the property and to the south and to the east two open hay fields and the two beaches. Also on the first floor is the living room with wood stove, a t.v./dvd/vcr, the west facing dining room, the kitchen, two small bedrooms (one with queen, one with two single beds) and a bathroom with a shower. There is a washing machine and dryer and microwave in a room behind the kitchen. The kitchen has an electric stove and a dishwasher.
All of the rooms in the house have spectacular views and are all flooded with natural light.
The upstairs is rustic open spruce framing and has the king bedroom, with east and west views. There are sitting and nap "areas" and a bathroom with shower.
Pets may be welcomed with permission from the owner. Please let us know what pets, and how many, you may want to bring along.
