The words "breathtakingly beautiful" will come to mind when driving down the tree lined drive to Blue View Point.
Perched at the top of a bluff, surrounded by swaying fields of wildflowers and long green grass and overlooking miles of blue ocean water, this house is one of a kind.
For years, it has been the family summer home of the Street family from Georgia.
Generations have spent lazy days on the deck, watching lobster boats mill around the waters in front of the house. Many hours have been spent on the private sandy beach, rare in this part of Maine, preparing lobster bakes, looking for sea glass or launching a kayak or canoe. The private dock* has been witness to dozens upon dozens of fish caught on a cast line in the waning hours of the day.
The house sits on 7 acres of wild fields, grassy lawn, raised flower beds and tall pine trees. The shorefront spans almost 350 feet on Hathorne Point. The views from the house are impressive and seemingly unending.
The house itself has classic styling with a semi-open floor plan. At the front of the house, the waterside here in Maine, is the kitchen, dining room and living room. Filled with natural light from many oversized windows, there is a view from everywhere you are.
There are two separate living spaces at Blue View, making it ideal for two families or a large group.
The kitchen is spacious and well-equipped with a large island, custom cherry cabinets, granite countertops and everything needed to prepare any type of meal. The kitchen flows into the dining room with vaulted ceilings and a large, round dining room table with seating for 8 or more. Floor to ceiling windows at the front of this room bring the outside in, providing views of the fields and the water at any time of the day. The wraparound deck is accessed from a French door off the dining room. A grill is provided for guest use on the deck.
The living room offers comfortable seating, plenty of light for reading, satellite television and a DVD player. Off the living room is a den with built-in shelving loaded with books of all sorts, games and puzzles. There are also comfortable chairs in this room for reading and a large table for putting together puzzles or playing games.
High speed satellite Internet is available.
Internet service is provided by Hughes Net which is a satellite-based service. Internet service may be limited as to the amount of data that can be downloaded and will not be suitable for large downloads such as movies. This service is best suited for web browsing and checking email.
At the back of the house is the laundry room and mud room; there is a full-sized washer and dryer here for guest use. There is also a full bathroom on this floor.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms and a full bath. The master bedroom, with a queen bed, has high ceilings with skylights and large windows overlooking the water. The second bedroom, also with wonderful views of the water, has two twin beds that can be made into a queen bed. The two bedrooms share a full bathroom.
The second living space is located above the garage and has equally beautiful views and a southerly facing deck. It is accessed from the mudroom of the main house via a set of stairs.
This portion of the house is its own little one-floor cottage with a kitchen, dining room, living room, two bedrooms and a full bath.
The first bedroom has bunk beds and wonderful drawers built into the eaves. The second bedroom has a queen bed.
Cushing is about 13 miles from Thomaston, 15 miles from Rockland and not far from Rockport, and Camden. The St. George Peninsula, home to Tenants Harbor and Port Clyde, is located directly across the water a boat makes sort work of the trip or take a quick 15-minute car ride to explore Cushing's twin peninsula.
* Although the pier is not for guest use, guests may anchor and moor a boat in the water off the property. Guests are welcome to drop an anchor and moor a boat, but this is recommended for experienced boaters only due to the tides and current.
