Bufflehead feels like a vacation house in Maine should all breezy and light-filled with the waterfront reflecting on the vaulted ceiling above the massive stone fireplace. It feels like home and an escape all at once and that is a combination rarely found.
Located on Spruce Head Island (easily accessed by car via the bridge), Bufflehead gives the unique experience of island living without being landlocked. When you want to be away from it all, you are. When you want to drive into Rockland or Tenants Harbor to spend a day exploring, hop in the car and you are there in 10 minutes.
The house is located on almost an acre of private and well-landscaped waterfront. Thanks to a large, green lawn and lots of outdoor living space, Bufflehead is as wonderful outside as it is inside.
The waterfront is ever changing with the tide at high tide, it is a great place to swim and kayak from and at low tide, walk out to the small rock islands that are exposed when the water recedes, look for crabs and other sea creatures under the seaweed or watch birds pick their way across the sea bottom.
The house is a blend of cottage charm and contemporary styling vaulted ceilings, hardwood floors, a multitude of large windows (it's truly amazing to watch the light change here throughout the day) and an open-concept floor plan.
The house opens onto a large, modern kitchen with stainless steel countertops. All modern kitchen appliances and amenities are provided an island and lots of counter-top space for ease of preparation and a breakfast bar that allows those in the kitchen to interact easily with the rest of the house.
The dining area is combined with the living room in a large space at the front of the house the dining table seats 6 comfortably (there is also a fun kids' table for little ones) and overlooks the deck and the waterfront.
The living room, which has a working fireplace and a flat screen television, occupies the rest of the space. This is truly a comfortable living room with slipcovered couches and chairs and a chaise lounge by the window read here for hours or watch the tide come in and out. Floor-to-ceiling windows flank the fireplace.
The house has satellite television, high speed Internet and a Bose sound system. There is also a library of books and games provided.
The deck is accessed off the living room find a gas grill here as well as lots of outdoor furniture.
There is a bedroom and a full (shower) bathroom on the first floor. The bedroom has 2 twin beds and is located next to the bathroom. The laundry closet, with full-sized washer and dryer, is also available for guest use.
Another handy feature on the first floor is the mud room this room is off the kitchen and a perfect place to ditch sandy shoes and hang up towels after a day on the beach.
Upstairs, there is a loft area with a large desk where the modem for Internet access is available. There is also a sitting area here with a couch.
The master bedroom is located at the back of the house with a full bathroom (tub and shower combination). The master is large and private with a queen four-poster bed and views of the water from the side windows. The master feels private, quiet and very comfortable.
Just yards from the house find a separate guest suite above the garage. This space has its own entrance and bathroom (shower) and a queen bed. The room is large and comfortable with great views.
