Head of the Bay is a chalet-style house located, literally, where the bay begins in Owls Head. Nestled next to a stream leading to the ocean, the house sits among antique apple trees and overlooks a green lawn, beautiful water frontage, Rockland Harbor, the Breakwater Lighthouse and the gleaming waters of Penobscot Bay.
The physical location of the house couldn't be better literally 2 miles from downtown Rockland, Head of the Bay is minutes away from sandy Crescent Beach, the Owls Head Lighthouse and 15 minutes to Camden, Rockport and the St. George Peninsula where Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor sit. Head of the Bay truly makes exploring all the Midcoast region has to offer easy.
At all times, the waterfront is a kayakers' paradise it is this fact that convinced the owners, avid kayakers themselves, to purchase the property. The calm waters and easy, sloping shoreline make launching a kayak or canoe extremely easy. And what a place from which to explore the shores of Owls Head, Rockland and Penobscot Bay!
The house is year-round and modern with a wrap-around deck overlooking the water. Inside, find an open, bright layout with vaulted ceilings and exposed beams a catwalk from the upstairs master leads to a private deck.*
There are three bedrooms and 2 baths. The first floor has a master with a queen bed and a functional second bedroom with two twin trundle beds, making this second bedroom a very flexible space for large or small groups.
There is a full bathroom on the first floor which is also connected to the laundry room which is for guest use.
The second floor master is large and bright with a private bath there is an antique claw-foot tub with a handheld shower. There is a small television in this bedroom with cable reception.
Off the master, find a bridge, safely open to the living room and kitchen below, which leads to a small office area for those who need to work during vacation. The bridge also leads to the private deck off the front of the house settle into the Adirondack chairs and watch the ferry come in from Vinalhaven or just relax and watch the tide come in.
The first floor is an open concept the kitchen and dining area is large and very functional. Lots of counter space and a movable island overlook the dining room table. The dining room table can comfortably seat 8 or more people and overlooks the waterfront.
The kitchen is fully-equipped with all cooking implements, an electric stove, dishwater and microwave. A lobster pot is also provided for those who would like to head down to a local wharf to stock up and have a lobster bake at home.
The living room is spacious and bright with lots of comfortable seating, games, books and a television. The house is equipped with cable television and high speed Internet connection. Cell phone reception is also excellent here.
The waterfront changes as the tide changes a small beach is exposed when the tide is lower. This is a great place to bring a beach chair to read. There is never a shortage of places to explore for kids look for sea life in the tidal pools, dig in the sand or walk along the shoreline.
Head of the Bay is a perfect place for just about anyone centrally-located, water-fronted, comfortable and welcoming.
* For those with small children, gates are provided to make sure access to the upstairs is restricted without adult supervision.
