On the Rocks, St. George
Sleeps 9 in 4 bedrooms; 2 full bathrooms
The location of this beloved summer home is undoubtedly one of the best you will find. Words fail to describe the views and surroundings, pictures hardly do it justice.
Sitting at the end of Clark Island Road, the house is surrounded by a green lawn that leads to large, smooth rocks.
Beyond the rocks, you will find Clark Island Beach quiet, secluded and perfect for spending the day on. Tidal pools abound, rocks blanketed in seaweed where crabs love to hide, warm sand to dig toes into and shallow water for wading or launching a kayak. When the tide is high, the water hits right below the house sit on the rocks and watch the day end, read a book or take a dip. When you are falling asleep, you will hear water lapping the rocks and not much of anything else.
It is hard to imagine a better spot than this.
The house is a nice blend of comfortable and classic a recent renovation has made the house amazingly open, spacious and airy inside with wood floors and lots of windows. With 180 degree views and water views from virtually every room, this house feels like the beach house everyone waits all winter for.
Inside, there is a large kitchen with lots of counter space, typical, modern appliances and room for the most serious of chefs. A dining room off the kitchen also leads to a side deck. This deck overlooks the island and the causeway cove with wooden chairs and a dining table for eating outside on warm, beautiful nights.
The living room is large and comfy with endless views lots of seating, a reading area and a television with cable. The house also has a Wi-Fi Internet connection. (Imagine, doing your work with the Mussel Ridge Channel as your backdrop!)
The front room has another reading area with a stereo and a wonderful telescope to check out boats on the water, birds walking the beach or the night stars, which seem brighter thanks to little or no light pollution. Off the front room, find a deck with a retractable awning and stairs leading to the front lawn and the rocks.
There is a laundry closet with a washer and a dryer on this floor, as well as a full bathroom with a tub.
There are two bedrooms downstairs the Sailboat Room is the master with a queen bed and superb views. This bedroom also has TV with cable.
The Fish Room has a twin trundle bed and a bookcase of wonderful Maine children's books.
Upstairs, find two bedrooms and one bathroom with a shower.
The Spruce Room has some of the best views in the house overlooking the property's 200+ feet of water frontage or the causeway cove. Two twin beds and an additional twin bed nestled into the eves of the house. Open (but finished) timber framing makes this room comfortable and cozy with tall, open ceilings.
The Lupine Room is situated at the back of the house with views of the causeway cove. Two twin beds with the same open timber and vaulted ceilings as the Spruce Room.
The back of the house has a covered farmer's porch for hanging wet towels and bathing suits and leaving shoes outside, as well as pails, sand toys, etc.
Clark Island is a fabulous location the dead end road means very little traffic. A perfect place to explore, ride bikes or take a walk.
Clark Island was once a bustling town for the quarry workers who worked on the island if you walk through the now-residential village, you can spot houses that were once the post office, general store, church and union hall. Tiny quarry-worker-houses are still abundant and beyond charming.
Equidistant to Port Clyde, Tenants Harbor and Rockland, Clark Island is an easy place to get anywhere from!
