Roaring Spout Farmhouse, St. George
Sleeps 10 in 4 bedrooms and 1 guest apartment, 3 full bathrooms and 1/2 bathroom
Hidden in an amazing location on the St. George Peninsula, Roaring Spout was built in the classic Maine Cottage style, but on a much larger scale.
When you think of Maine, the tall pines, long days and dotted sunlight spilling onto hardwood floors through a screen door, this is the house that should come to mind.
Surrounded by 6 private acres, this house is rich in architectural detail thanks to the presence of mind of the local builder who crafted this house in 2000 with a Maine Cottage design in mind.
The house brings the outdoors in through vast doorways, a multitude of windows, sun porches and decks. The grounds are well kept with green lawns, fields of wildflowers and woods to explore.
There are also fruit trees on the property and a natural pond. The crashing waves can be heard from the house; the shore itself is a short stroll away (one-tenth of a mile), via a walking right of way, and is protected by the Georges River Land Trust to preserve its natural beauty.
The first floor has a traditional farmhouse eat-in kitchen with pantry and easy access to the back deck for dining outdoors. The ceilings are unusually high on the first floor, giving a breezy and open feeling. The kitchen is large with counter space to rival any professional kitchen gas range, full-sized refrigerator, microwave, toaster, a traditional coffee maker or French press, a gas grill on the back deck and all the cooking utensils one would need to create a meal of any size.
The kitchen connects to a sunny living room with fireplace, a sunroom with painted wood floors and access to the front and back porches and a multipurpose office/den to be used for quiet reading or a home office if work needs to be done on vacation.
The living room is large with several different seating areas one nestled in the sunlight provided by the French doors, a second situated by the fireplace and a third oriented towards the flat screen television with satellite reception and a DVD player.
There is a also a first floor bedroom located off the living room what used to be the sun porch has been transformed into the most relaxing retreat in the house privacy is created with flowing cotton curtains. This room has a queen bed and a sitting area.
A powder room with a washer and dryer and a mudroom is also located on this floor. A wide staircase provides access to the second floor. There are three bedrooms on this floor and two baths.
The master bedroom has a queen bed with an en-suite bathroom and a walk-in closet. A sweet sitting area is nestled between the bowed picture windows in the turret of the house, overlooking the back yard.
The second bedroom is connected to the third by a Jack and Jill full bath. The second bedroom has a queen bed and overlooks the backyard; the third bedroom has a double bed and overlooks the front yard. Both bedrooms have lots of windows and plenty of room to spread out.
The guest apartment is located over the garage and has a separate entrance. Fully-equipped with a kitchen, a dining area, sitting area, queen bed and a 3/4 bath, this is a perfect spot to house a nanny, grandparents or any guests that would like the option to have privacy from the rest of the house.
This is a spacious house both in and out and is perfect for family gatherings or as a group retreat.
