Rose Cottage, Port Clyde
Sleeps 8 in 4 bedrooms; 2 bathrooms
For people who love the Midcoast, Port Clyde is one of those places that can't be missed, can't be replicated and can't be forgotten. Located at the end of the St. George Peninsula, this small fishing village comes alive in the warmer months and has become, for many, the ideal place to vacation in Maine.
Port Clyde is a place where days slow down and memories of a simpler time resurface. Port Clyde is a place where kids can still run to the ice cream shop or fish off the public landing. You can walk to dinner, eat lobster on a deck on the water and walk home under a sky that still allows stars to shine.
As one visitor wrote, "Fast paced, high intensity entertainment not in Port Clyde, Maine. Although summer brings an influx in tourists, Port Clyde is a place where stepping back in time comes naturally. As you stand at the edge of its working harbor and gaze around the centuries old village, it is hard not to feel that you are actually part of its past and not in the present."
Rose Cottage sits in the middle of all this located in the center of town, you are close to everything in this adorable house owned by the Barstow Family. The Barstow Family owns Monhegan Boat Line, the small ferry-boat to and from Monhegan Island. The Laura B. and the Elizabeth Ann carry the island's mail, its deliveries, its visitors and its year round residents to and from the island.
Rose Cottage is also a perfect place for boaters of all kinds. There is water access to Port Clyde Harbor just a few hundred feet away from the house. This is a great place to put in a kayak or explore the waterfront.
In addition, Monhegan Boat has complimentary floats and moorings available for anyone who would like to bring their boat.
Rose Cottage is perched on a small hill across the street is the ice cream shop and a darling antique shop, down the hill is the general store, several shops and a fabulous restaurant (one of 3 in town) called the Dip Net. You can walk or bike everywhere and feel as if you are a part of it all.
It's a lovely house a traditional Maine summer house with an enclosed front porch overlooking the village and the waterfront. Of course, the windows open (with screens) to create a screen porch atmosphere. Find rocking Adirondack chairs and a table and chairs for morning coffee or a casual dinner as the sun sets.
Inside, find 4 bedrooms, 2 baths, a living room, kitchen and dining room. The living room has comfortable furniture along with good reading lights, a television and cable. A high-speed Internet connection is also available.
The kitchen is fully-equipped (lots of storage and prep room, thanks to the adorable butler's pantry) with all modern appliances, cookware, dishes, etc. The kitchen also has a breakfast table that can seat 46. The dining room seats 6 and overlooks the lawn and waterfront these two rooms are close enough to comfortably seat a larger party without feeling disconnected.
Off the living room find the first bedroom with twin beds and the original built-in glass-paned cupboards. This bedroom is afforded privacy, thanks to the butler's pantry, but is just a walk away from the downstairs bathroom (full with shower).
The master is also on this floor with a queen bed and its own bathroom (full with shower).
Upstairs, find two more bedrooms, each with a queen. Both of these bedrooms are roomy and sunny.
The house has hardwood floors and all the original woodwork. There is also an Internet connection at this house.
For those who want a change of pace, the larger cities of Rockland and Camden are just 2530 minutes away.
