Saltwater Farmhouse on Lighthouse Road in Owls Head is an idyllic reminder of the understated charm of a summer in Maine: Salty breezes, fields, boats bobbing in the harbor, a beach perfect for exploring, bare feet and never-ending afternoons. It just feels right – uncomplicated, comfortable and all that Maine is supposed to be.

This is a quintessential Maine farmhouse has been lovingly cared for by generations – the house maintains its distinctive, period charm melded seamlessly with modern conveniences.

The property overlooks Owls Head Harbor and is just 1 mile from the iconic Owls Head Light.  A path through the field at the edge of the property leads guests to the waterfront – an excellent place to launch kayaks or paddleboards. Surrounded by a large lawn, the house has a covered porch overlooking the water and is set back from the road, making it safe for children play. Owls Head General Store is just a stroll away.

The house has two bathrooms and 4 bedrooms and can sleep eight people. The first floor bedroom has a king, the second floor master has a queen, the third bedroom has a double and the fourth bedroom has two twins.

Perched on a gently rising, grassy hill the property overlooks the working waterfront of Owls Head Harbor – the property extends to the water and guests can access the gravely beach area via a grassy path. The property is located in the village of Owls Head where the charming Owls Head General Store is just a 5 minute walk away and stunning Owls Head State Park, complete with a famous lighthouse, is accessible by foot.

The house is surrounded by mature trees, a well-cared for lawn – the back yard has a fire pit. This is a lawn for badminton, croquet, playing tag…At the front of the house is a lovely covered porch complete with Adirondack chairs to watch the sun rise between the islands in the morning or the lobster boats come into the harbor at the end of the day.

The main entrance opens into a mudroom – a great place to take off sandy shoes after a long day exploring.

The kitchen is updated with modern appliances, but the farmhouse charm – think pickled bead board cabinets with high ceilings, remains intact.  There is a breakfast table and the kitchen is fully equipped for meal preparation.

Off the kitchen is a pantry area and the dining room – the dining room can seat 8. There is also seating in the kitchen for 2-4. 

The living room has a smart flat screen television with cable reception. Off the living room is the sun porch – this is a great room to spend time in the event of inclement weather. The windows open so the room doubles as a screen porch which is always a welcome addition in Maine.

There is a full bathroom on the first floor with a shower/tub combination. There is also a full sized washer and dryer for guest use.

The master bedroom is on the first floor – there is a king sized bed, views of the waterfront and a smart flat screen television.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms and a bathroom. The front room has a queen bed, lovely views and a flat screen television.
The third bedroom has a full bed and views of the backyard. Down the hall is the bathroom with a shower.
The fourth bedroom has two twin beds and views of the water as well.

The Salt Water Farm House is equipped with WIFI and may be dog friendly upon approval of breed and age.

While some properties do have internet connection that is more “modern”, many properties are in locations that only allow for DSL or satellite connection which can be slower and at the mercy of weather, whole network connectivity and the like.
Please be aware SummerMaine cannot guarantee the speed or accessibility of the internet at any of our properties during your stay.
Outages of any type are not the basis for a refund. We cannot guarantee repair times or repair person availability.
With that said, if you have certain needs regarding the internet, please let us know and we will indicate the properties providing the service that best meets your needs.

Household Consumables and items: The following items are typically found at the properties to get you started.
 
-Dishwasher, liquid soap for sink dish washing, washing machine detergent.
- New Kitchen sponge per guest turnover.
- All purpose counter cleaner
- All purpose bathroom cleaner
- Hand soap for Kitchen & bathroom
- Bathroom tissue/toilet paper 2 rolls per bathroom per guest turnover.
- Paper towels for kitchen 1 starter roll
- A few trash bags
- Coffee filters
- Propane or Charcoal for Grill. Grill tools- scraper/steel brush, spatula, tongs, fork. Oven Mitt.
 
 
You should plan to bring with you or purchase shortly after arrival:
- Groceries, coffee, condiments
-Some properties will have dry spices and other items. We are not able to inventory these things…if you will want to have something special to cook with we suggest bringing it with you.
-Additional paper towels, toilet paper, paper/plastic ware etc.
 -Laundry detergent
-Shampoos, body soaps and other personal hygiene products.
-Beach gear- beach towels, chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.
-Approved pets will need a leash.
 
-Baby equipment (you can always rent equipment from our friends at Mid-Coast Family Rentals)

Clothing: The weather can change dramatically from one day to the next. You will want to dress for the season. It is best to be prepared. Even in the warmest days of summer the nights can get cool. In the fall it is always a good idea to have a sweatshirt or jacket with you.

IN ADDITION TO THE RENTAL AMOUNT the following fees and tax apply
A $180 CLEANING FEE, DOG FEE (if applicable),
9% TAX on Rent, Dog Fees and Cleaning Fees,
A Processing Fee of 6% of the rental amount.
*ALL FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE.
*A NON-REFUNDABLE DEPOSIT OF 1/2 OF THE RENTAL AMOUNT IS DUE UPON RESERVATION.
 
Cleaning requirements before check out: Please leave all used towels in the tub. Please remove all items from the refrigerator and wash dishes. All furniture and furnishing MUST be returned to the original location they were in upon check in. Please bag all trash and leave in receptacle provided.
 
Check in and out times: Check in is 4:00 PM and Check out is 10:00 AM. Early check in/out is not allowed in the high season. Guests who have not vacated by 10:00 AM will be charged $25.00 every 15 minutes after 10:00 AM.
