Pumpkin Point is located on Rackliff Island, which is part of the Tenants Harbor and St. George Peninsula. The island is access by a causeway and truth be told, getting to this beautiful, waterfront house is almost as breathtaking as the property itself.
Driving down tree lined Island Ave, the road suddenly opens up onto one of the most stunning views you will see: at the end of the causeway, a pine studded island settled in the middle of Wheeler’s Bay, a vibrant boating and fishing community. Pumpkin Point overlooks the wide, open ocean and the outer islands on the horizon, Spruce Head Island to the left and Clark Island to the right. You will see lobster boats, sail boats, kayakers and cruising boats working their way around the Mussel Ridge Channel.
Pumpkin Point was designed and built to bring its unique and striking waterfront location indoors – floor to ceiling windows, warm wood abounds and a soaring fireplace, built from the very granite surrounding the island, is the mainstay of the family room.
Outdoor living spaces are found on each floor – a covered outdoor dining area, a sprawling deck at the front of the house as well as two private decks on the second floor. There are views from virtually every room and they are ever changing as the tides.
The property itself sits on a small point; on one side, the lawn leads to a private wharf and smooth granite ledge dipping down to the water and an easily accessible sandy beach dotted with tide pools on the other. This property is the best of both worlds; go boating and fishing from the wharf in the morning and then spend the afternoon with your toes in warm sand reading a good book.
Rackliff Island is perfect for walking, running and biking – plus, it is equidistant to the villages of Port Clyde and Tenants Harbor and the larger cities of Rockland and Camden/Rockport. The communities have vibrant centers with restaurants, museums, shops and cultural events.
The main floor has a spacious family room with a fireplace and a large kitchen with a dining area to seat 10-12 people. Both these rooms have access to the front deck via French Doors. The ceilings are high and the natural light is beautiful. Also on this floor is the master with a king bed and an en suite bathroom with an oversized customer shower. A smaller bedroom is on the opposite side of the house with a queen bed and a full bathroom (tub and shower combination) in close proximity. The front vestibule of the house has a half bath as well. The first floor also has a mud room and a laundry room.
Upstairs, there are three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, a large game room with a regulation sized pool table, a minibar, a cozy conversation area overlooking the water and a multi-purpose room.
The first bedroom has a queen bed and water views – there is a full bathroom with a shower/tub combination just outside the door. The second bedroom has a queen and water views – it also has access to a private, roof top deck with a bistro set. The views from this elevated deck are amazing! Adjacent to this bedroom is a smaller bedroom with two twin beds. Another full bathroom with a tub/shower combo is also just outside the door.
The multi-purpose room, which is accessed via stairs leading from the garage on the first floor has comfortable seating and a foosball table.
Pumpkin Point is truly an escape to another world – it allows for island living without needing a boat or a ferry. The natural beauty that surrounds it is found inside as well. And although it can host a large group, it doesn’t feel overwhelmingly big…it feels well-planned and comfortable with nods to well-developed aesthetic style. Pumpkin Point allows you to experience Maine – the real Maine which is precious for all that it is and all that it isn’t.

While some properties do have internet connection that is more “modern”, many properties are in locations that only allow for DSL or satellite connection which can be slower and at the mercy of weather, whole network connectivity and the like.
Please be aware SummerMaine cannot guarantee the speed or accessibility of the internet at any of our properties during your stay.
Outages of any type are not the basis for a refund. We cannot guarantee repair times or repair person availability.
With that said, if you have certain needs regarding the internet, please let us know and we will indicate the properties providing the service that best meets your needs.
All linens and towels are provided.
Dogs may be considered with owner approval, non-refundable fee and pet policy agreement. Please inquire.
No boats, kayaks or other watercraft are provided due to insurance restrictions. Please contact Port Clyde Kayaks for rental options.
Limited Household Consumables and items: The following items are typically found at the properties to get you started.
- Bathroom tissue/toilet paper 2 rolls per bathroom per guest turnover.
- Paper towels for kitchen 1 starter roll
- A few trash bags
- Coffee filters
- Propane or Charcoal for Grill. Grill tools- scraper/steel brush, spatula, tongs, fork. Oven Mitt.
-Dishwasher, liquid soap for sink dish washing, washing machine detergent. (limited amounts)
- New Kitchen sponge per guest turnover.
- All purpose counter cleaner

You should plan to bring with you or purchase shortly after arrival:
- Groceries, coffee, condiments
-Some properties will have dry spices and other items. We are not able to inventory these things…if you will want to have something special to cook with we suggest bringing it with you.
-Additional paper towels, toilet paper, paper/plastic ware etc.
-Shampoos, body soaps and other personal hygiene products.
-Beach gear- beach towels, chairs, sunscreen, bug spray, etc.
-Baby equipment (you can always rent equipment from our friends at Mid-Coast Family Rentals)
Clothing: The weather can change dramatically from one day to the next. You will want to dress for the season. It is best to be prepared. Even in the warmest days of summer the nights can get cool. In the fall it is always a good idea to have a sweatshirt or jacket with you.
IN ADDITION TO THE RENTAL AMOUNT the following fees and tax apply
A CLEANING FEE, DOG FEE (if applicable),
9% TAX on Rent, Dog Fees and Cleaning Fees,
A Processing Fee of 9% of the rental amount.

Cleaning requirements before check out: Please leave all used towels in the tub. Please remove all items from the refrigerator and wash dishes. All furniture and furnishing MUST be returned to the original location they were in upon check in. Please bag all trash and leave in receptacle provided.
Check in and out times: Check in is 4:00 PM and Check out is 10:00 AM. Early check in/out is not allowed in the high season. Guests who have not vacated by 10:00 AM will be charged $25.00 every 15 minutes after 10:00 AM.
